H&M is a Swedish clothing company offering women’s, men’s, youth and children’s fashion as well as cosmetics and accessories. The founder, Erling Persson, left for the USA in 1946, from where he came back with the idea of creating a store that would offer high-quality clothes at a good price. In 1947, he opened the first shop in Västerås, Sweden, “Hennes”, where he sold only clothes for women (“hennes” in Swedish means “her”, “for her”). Only in 1968, when Erling Persson bought the Mauritz Widforss store at Sergelgatan in Stockholm, supplemented the offer with a men’s collection, and changed the name of the company to the current Hennes & Mauritz. In 1998, the company managed to buy her own initials as an Internet domain. Today, H&M is ranked 60th in the VB.com Internet Hall of Fame, which includes more than 110 brands with two-letter domains.
